Sheila CallahamYou’ve been pursuing a goal — a dream — for a long time, but you aren’t getting the results you hoped for. You feel frustrated to the point that you’re second-guessing yourself. You worry that all the nay-sayers in your life will laugh, whack you on the back and say, “I told you so!”

You shake the vision from your mind, but the feelings of concern remain.

Were you born to a life of failure? No way.

Are you making mistakes along the way? Perhaps.

Is there anything you can do to change the results? Absolutely!

Turn it Around Using Law of Attraction

It all begins with mindset.

You may already have strategy and tactics all lined up. And the last time you checked, you were ticking everything off just as planned. But what are you really focused on? Your success or your fear of failure?

If you are not focusing your thoughts and energy on the outcome you desire, you are undermining yourself.

Here’s why….

We are energetic beings living an energetic experience. Think about how it feels when you walk into a party, the room is alive with excitement. Now think about walking in on two people having an argument, the room is thick with a different kind of energy altogether.

While like poles of a magnet may repel, energy itself is magnetic. Not to get too technical, “Magnetism is a force but has no energy of its own,” explains David Cohen-Tanugi, vice president of the MIT Energy Club and a John S. Hennessy Fellow in MIT’s Materials Science and Engineering department. But energy is different.

The energy (or thought) you put out has a vibrational frequency which is matched. Therefore, the energy (thoughts) you send out vibrationally is matched in return. This is also known as the Law of Attraction; a topic brought front and center with the best-selling book, “The Secret.”

Before you poo-poo the idea, let’s dive into the science of how your brain works.

“The brain regions involved in intention are very connected to those regions involved in action, explains Dr. Srini Pillay, author, Harvard professor, and CEO of NeuroBusiness Group. In his HuffPost article on the science behind energy of the mind, Dr. Pillay writes, “When you place your attention on a certain feeling (e.g. pain), it can worsen that feeling. By inference, when we place our attention away from that pain, the pain is decreased. Thus, it is not so much that we are attracting what we put out, but that we make it possible to feel and do things when we attend to them or intend to do them.”

So let’s go back to your point of focus. To create an atmosphere of success, that’s what you need to remain focused on. The moment you allow the doubt to creep in, you “split” your energy and open the doors for what you don’t want. That’s the Law of Attraction in a nutshell.

We’ve all heard that thoughts impact our feelings, feelings guide our actions or inaction, which then lays the foundation for our success — or lack thereof.

To lay the groundwork for success, just remember to stay focused on the goal. Give yourself the pleasure of imagining how good it will feel to get there. As Dr. Pillay says, “The depth of our feelings and actions is a critical variable in attracting what we want to our lives.” And what better way to deepen the feeling and commitment to action, than to already see yourself where you want to be.

Not sure how to do that? No problem! I’ve created this visioning meditation just for you.

Dream Big (Real Big!)

Make sure you are in a comfortable place where you will not be disturbed for at least 10 minutes. Before playing the meditation, sit comfortably with your spine straight and your feet on the floor. Take several deep breaths before setting your intention on what you really want to create.

Then when you’re ready, listen to my Dream Big guided meditation.

After the meditation, take a few moments to jot down your biggest takeaway in a notebook or journal. How did the meditation make you feel? How strongly did you feel connected to your intended vision? What was the most surprising outcome you experienced when connecting to the future you?

Journaling is a great way to keep track of your success. Not only will it help keep you on track, but journaling also gives you a record of your journey along the way. Why is that important? So you can remember, of course! And so you can inspire others to do the same.
